Anish Kapoor is a world-renowned contemporary British artist who was awarded Britain's Turner Prize in 1991. In 1995, he began creating stainless steel mirror sculptures. Kapoor's Indian heritage has encouraged the artist's extended contemplation of the traditional Indian dualities of "material" and "immaterial", "existence" and "disappearance", and "space" and "non-space". He has expressed hope that his creations, like the architectural wonders of ancient times, will be able "to occupy the territory", clarifying that "the territory is an idea and a way of thinking as much as a context that generates objects". By reflecting and distorting viewers and the scenes behind them, this piece effectively opens up extradimensional spaces and ideas.
